Awkward Perches

poster of 4 birds on Awkward Perches

Three of these photos were taken near this road in Coyote Valley seen as the background image. The fourth was closer to water.

  1. Turkey Vultures: Detecting their dead prey while soaring high in the sky, the Turkey Vulture does not even watch TV.
  2. Ferruginous Hawk: A Winter visitor from the North American Great Plains, the Ferruginous Hawk is more often seen safely perched on the ground.
  3. American White Pelican: [map in a new window] Adobe Creek joins with the marsh to create sandbars and sandy shores on which all sorts of water birds like to rest. Pelicans are the big ones!
  4. Great Egrets: The Egrets have found a population of field mice next to this person's house. Hope the roof is sturdy.
